Deciphering Meaning & Purposes While Getting Lost

Deciphering Meaning & Purposes While Getting Lost...

First and foremost, WELCOME to any and all who happen to visit this new main blog spot concerning all future investigative journalism posts and writings of travels.
My name is Dan Tabor (former fiction writer) who is now a content seasonal traveler of America's lower 48 States (and have been for just over a decade). A homeless vagabond 70% of the time-by choice-inorder to experience and investigate some of the most happened upon and often impromptu journeys, discoveries, festivals, events and enlightenment based on some of the most wonderful places and distinctly awesome people I come across and am fortunate to call friends.
I begin this week blogging-in reflection and deep admiration-upon two very inspiring documentaries I recently watched on Hulu.
The first is Burning Man (also available more preferably on You Tube commercial free) involving the late summer-into September festival-in the remote desert region of Black Rock Nevada. Since its initiation in 1986, now many thousands around the world ritualistically visit, take part in, turn on, party, share, enlighten, volunteer, rock out and burn it all to the ground afterwards. I want to go ahead and post the main website to this incredible festival (www.burningman.com) for others to checkout, for it is truly fascinating and brings together-from what I can interpret and decipher-such an original, peaceful gathering of peace and community.
What interested me the most in the documentary was a booth where attendees can can private time to be interviewed regarding their own individual feelings on 'The Meaning of Life.' One of my closest friends at my local Buddhist Sangha here in Williamsburg Virginia recently told me, "There is no distinct, one meaning defining life."-and that I would happen to partially agree on (as far as just one meaning is concerned). Just this past winter while trekking on foot throughout a majority of the absolute poorest and most reclusive regions of Mississippi, I officially declared my own self righteous judgement to never, ever be dogmatically religious again in this current lifetime. While enthusiastically listening to many attendees of Burning Man describe their own feelings behind the meaning of life, I even more strongly affirm my own personal attachment to any and all religious beliefs, but also identified sort of an overall kinship concerning many other souls here on earth, especially concerning the topics of spirit/soul, extraterrestrials and also the drastic need we humans seem to all share and connect concerning the arts.
This coming May I plan to visit Colorado for the first time since 2004 and am-initially at this time-also considering the Taos New Mexico area aswell. Once fully enlightened once again from my always deeply enriching and beloved GREAT American West, I will then gradually advance to my very first Burning Man festival to hopefully interview and film much of that for the very first time. VERY excited!
The second documentary to recently inspire me contains more heart and impacting reality than even my usual fondness for romantic comedy films.'Craigslist Joe' is profoundly one of the greatest travel experiments I have ever heard of and a documentary, (produced by Zach Galifianakis- http://www.hulu.com/watch/417695) which sends out one young man with no money, no previous planned agenda where to travel or any arrangements of any kind concerning how he will eat, be sheltered or get by, other than going on Craigslist and hooking up with others for the duration of 31 days.
TRULY,TRULY, TRULY fascinating and what this documentary also reaffirmed within me is the fact that we humans-beyond all worldliness, greed and capital gain-are infact still compassionate, friendly to those in need, aswell as absolute giving and charitable souls. As astonishing as this may sound for many in our common era, I have never once used Craigslist. Yet after watching this documentary, I doubt if I will ever travel extensively again without it.
I connected with the personally reality of homelessness and also the reminded morning of how Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. But beyond these more heart-tugging moments of the documentary, it truly is enlightening to experience the variety of people(s) who assisted this brave and courageous young man along his 31 day journey into the unknown.
Once again, welcome all who happen across this new writing & travel blog of mine. Dan Tabor is OFFICIALLY DONE with writing books, however will continue to investigate from a journalistic, aswell as philosophical and gradually experienced perspective. So stay tuned, for I do very much intend on making this blog site my future weekly home to freely share, entertain and enlighten others.-DT
